President’s Prize 2025

President’s Prize Day was blessed with fine weather, great spirits, and a superb turnout from members across all categories. The course looked—and played—pristine, setting the tone for a competitive and enjoyable day. With shotgun starts at 8 a.m. and 1 p.m., both fields took to the course with high hopes of posting a score worthy of the President’s coveted prize.

The competition was tight, with some outstanding scoring throughout. The greens were true, the fairways immaculate, and the pace of play brisk—a credit to all involved. Early reports after the first shotgun suggested that someone very close to the President had posted a superb 42 points, and the general consensus was that it might just be enough to win. But the man with the blue Porsche and the ever-reliable ballroom dancer had other ideas—both scorched around the course with 43 points, with Peter edging out the evergreen Freddie Smith on countback.

After the second shotgun wrapped up, the terrace filled quickly as golfers returned for the presentation. The beer and wine flowed, and the atmosphere was celebratory but relaxed, with plenty of banter and a great sense of occasion.

The President took to the mic and began by thanking everyone who played, supported, and helped organise the day. Special thanks went to JJ and his ground staff, rightly praised for the magnificent condition of the course.

He also welcomed Nicholas, the recent addition to the team from Bordeaux, who has already made a big impact and contributed hugely to the day’s success. The restaurant staff and the lads in the proshop were also recognised for their excellent service and hard work behind the scenes.

Importantly, the President acknowledged the work done by the organising committee, and warmly thanked the past Presidents in attendance for their ongoing support and encouragement throughout the year.

His speech struck the perfect balance of gratitude, humour, and reflection—and was warmly received by all.

Prizes were awarded across multiple categories including Best Gross, Category Winners, Front Nine, Back Nine, and of course, the President’s Prize. Each winner received a hearty round of applause and had their moment captured alongside the President for posterity.

There was a real buzz of satisfaction that the day had gone so smoothly, both on and off the course. With the formalities complete, the evening shifted into a more social gear. A buffet was served, drinks continued to flow, and conversation filled the clubhouse.

Shay McDonough and his guitar provided the perfect backdrop, kicking off a spontaneous singalong that gathered momentum as the night wore on. Good spirits carried long into the night, with laughter, “local rules,” and the usual post-round dissection of miracle shots and missed putts.

All in all, it was a memorable President’s Day—well run, well supported, and a great credit to the club.

Champagne Rumble – 9th August 2025

On a glorious summer Saturday, the Committee hosted a Champagne Rumble with a shotgun start — the perfect recipe for fun, competition, and a bit of craic. Teams were carefully balanced by the Competition Secretary to keep handicap indexes as equal as possible, with at least one lady golfer on each team. The result? A lively day where everyone finished together, enjoyed great golf, and tucked into a well-earned burger and beer that was laid on as part of the entry fee.
