Etiquette

Hi Juniors, Golf etiquette is a set of rules and customs for polite behaviour on and off the golf course. It describes the importance of respect for your fellow competitors, coaches, ground staff and the golf course itself. It instills values of honesty, sportsmanship, fairness, and integrity that makes golf the honourable game it is and of course it will hopefully carry over into other positive aspects of your young lives.

Adhering to etiquette guidelines encourages responsibility and self-discipline and you will learn to take ownership for your actions, whether it’s repairing divots, raking bunkers, fixing pitch marks or keeping up with the pace of play.

Here are some etiquette guidelines for young players:

  • Show respect for fellow junior golfers, adult players, coaches, and course staff.
  • Take the time to learn the basic rules of golf and abide by them during play.
  • Help maintain the course by fixing divots and ball marks on greens and fairways.
  • Avoid making unnecessary noise or talking loudly while others are playing.
  • Use polite language and manners on the course.
  • Help fellow players when needed, such as searching for lost balls or helping to find yardage markers.
  • Maintain a positive attitude, even if you’re not playing your best. Golf is a challenging game, and learning to handle setbacks with grace is an important skill.
  • Be mindful of wildlife on the course and avoid disturbing animals or their habitats.
  • Most importantly, remember that golf is meant to be enjoyable! Have fun, make friends, and appreciate the opportunity of playing the game.
